Celebrating Mustang’s Racing Legacy — Accessible, Competitive, Unforgettable

Ford is taking grassroots racing to the next level. As the #Ford Racing Motorsports Pyramid continues to grow, Ford is thrilled to announce the launch of a brand-new class in the #Mustang Cup USA series for 2026 - Mustang Cup Classic.
This isn’t just another addition; it’s a celebration of Mustang’s rich racing heritage. Mustang Cup Classic honors the incredible performance legacy of Ford Mustangs from this millennium, giving enthusiasts and competitors a chance to bring these iconic machines back to the track. By allowing select Mustang models to compete alongside the current-generation Mustang Dark Horse R cars, the entry point of Ford’s Motorsports Pyramid, this new class lowers the barrier to entry for owners who crave competition.
Eligible Models for Mustang Cup Classic:
2005–2010 FR500C
2008 FR500S
2011–2014 Boss 302R
2012–2014 Boss 302S
2017 FP350S
These Mustangs aren’t just legends; they’ve proven themselves in road racing, racking up wins in series like the Grand Am Cup Series, Pirelli World Challenge, and SCCA Touring Championships. To keep the playing field fair, Ford will use a simple power-to-weight ratio system, a tried-and-true method already popular in regional racing.

Partnering for Value
Ford, USAC, and Yokohama are teaming up to make racing more accessible. From condensing race weekends to reduce travel costs, to lowering entry fees and operating expenses, every step is designed to help competitors get the most out of their experience.
USAC is even introducing a “Bring a Friend, Race on Us” program: refer a driver who registers for the full Mustang Cup season, and USAC will cover your entry fees for the entire season.
And for Mustang Cup Classic racers, Ford is making the deal even sweeter. The first 15 competitors to register will receive an entry fee that’s $1,000 less than the standard Mustang Cup fee, because passion for racing should never be held back by cost.
Straightforward Rules, Maximum Fun
Ford wants competitors to focus on what matters most: racing. That’s why Mustang Cup Classic rules will be simple. Cars will run on the same Yokohama tires as the Dark Horse R race cars and must include a radio, transponder, series decals, and the USAC yellow flag system. To make sure Classic cars stand out, combined races will feature a split start between Dark Horse R and Mustang Cup Classic entrants.
