NEWS: Shelby Daytona Coupe First Car Entered in Historic Vehicle Registry

The National Historic Vehicle Registry has been officially launched by the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Heritage Documentation Program in conjunction with the Historic Vehicle Association. The National Historic Vehicle Registry is a new program which functions much like to the National Register of Historic Places however concentrating on vehicles as opposed to buildings.

Hemmings Auto Blog is reporting that the first vehicle added to the registry is the legendary Shelby Daytona Coupe. Only 6 Shelby Daytona Coupes where ever produced but chassis number CSX2287 in particular set numerous Bonneville speed records and won the first FIA GT championship for an American team.

The CSX2287 was actually a prototype Daytona Coupe, and is the only one built entirely by Shelby American. The value of the car itself is estimated at some $3million plus however documentation proves it was once sold for a measly $1000 and at one point ever given away.

We really love the idea behind The National Historic Vehicle Registry and no doubt the Shelby Daytona Coupe fits nicely. We’re looking forward to seeing what other vehicles make the cut.
