F-150 Lightning SuperTruck Ready to Conquer Pikes Peak

Ford Performance returns to Pikes Peak to further the company's electric powertrain research and development

The F-150 Lightning SuperTruck is gearing up to tackle the 102nd running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in late June. Ford's Performance team is enhancing the vehicle's aerodynamics and power output to conquer the challenging 12.5-mile uphill course, making it an ideal testing ground for electric powertrains. By testing electric vehicles in such extreme conditions, Ford can push the limits of EV technology and apply those findings to improve its production models.

These high-performance test vehicles play a crucial role in advancing components like motors, inverters, and battery packs and refining software calibration and battery cell chemistry. Stay tuned for more updates, as Ford has just released the first teaser for this exciting truck today.

Romain Dumas will be piloting the SuperTruck as competitor No. 150 during the qualifying run in Colorado Springs, Colorado on June 18-20. And then, get ready for the Hill Climb on June 23.

Ford is really on a roll, bringing an electric test vehicle to Pikes Peak for the second year in a row. The 1,400-horsepower Electric SuperVan 4.2, a souped-up version of Ford Pro’s E-Transit Custom Van, not only set a class record but also took home the victory in 2023. Looks like Ford is 'shocking' the competition.
